IFRA: The International Standard for Fragrance Safety
IFRA (International Fragrance Association), is an independent organization that sets standards to ensure all perfumes and essences used worldwide are produced safely and do not harm consumers.
These standards indicate at what concentration a fragrance can be used in different products. This is because the use of an essence in a candle, a room spray, or a product applied to the skin is not the same. Some essences can be used at much higher concentrations in candles, while much lower concentrations are permitted in products that come into contact with the skin.
IFRA's goal is to protect both manufacturers and consumers.
For this reason, fragrance suppliers must provide an IFRA Conformity Certificate for each essence. This certificate shows in which product categories the relevant fragrance can be safely used and its maximum usage rates.
Why is it Important for Human Health?
An IFRA-certified essence means:
Potential risks in its content have been evaluated,
The possibility of allergens and irritation has been controlled,
Safe usage dosages have been defined.
In short, it is scientifically confirmed that an IFRA-certified essence is safe for the consumer when used at the rates determined by IFRA.
